Kelowna, 1310 Bertram St, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2E8, Canada
About the event
Presenters: Rev. Brian, Elora and Declan Kiely // Worship Associate: Marilyn Raymond
In this Pride-themed service, Brian and family will celebrate our long Unitarian history of welcoming 2SLGBTQI+ people and the warmth of the KU community. We also invite you to stay for our potluck Community Lunch following the Service.
Flower Communion will be held during this service. We ask each person to bring a flower to place in a shared vase. Near the end of the service the flowers are redistributed so that each person takes home a different flower. Don’t worry if you can’t bring a flower. Flowers will be provided for those who need them. For those attending on Zoom, please bring a flower that you can share with others on screen.
Did you know?
That Rev. Rob Brownlie, a Unitarian Universalist, conducted the first religious same-sex union (non-legal marriage) service in Canada back in the 1970s? Rob would later retire and become active at KU for years. Did you know that in 1997, KU became the city's first “Welcoming Congregation”, a process that helped us learn how to be open and welcoming to 2SLGBTQI+ people. Our Unitarian history of belonging goes back a long way and still informs our church today, most recently with renovations to create all-gender washrooms.
Kelowna Unitarians is a non-creedal, theologically liberal religious community working for justice, equality and compassion while honouring each individual’s search for truth and meaning. All are welcome in our loving community.
